Use these creativity tips to help your brand/business
Often times, when one thinks of creativity, career paths such as graphic designers and marketing comes to mind; whilst those paths require a certain level of creativity, let’s not forget that innovation and creativity are important across all industries because business challenges do require innovative solutions.
Specifically, as it relates to Marketing, creativity can elevate your business as well as your products and services. As we head into the Christmas season which tends to be littered with advertising, you can use it to capture the attention of customers and team members.
So, are you a creative person? Not sure? We all are creative in our own way; you just need to recognize how important creativity is to success and challenge yourself to take risks and have confidence.
Creative people always see things with a different perspective; they see themselves not for what they are but what they can be. Here are a few traits of highly creative people; see if you can use this information to get your creative juices flowing:
They use the ‘Why, why technique’ – Ask ‘why’ several times. This is something I do on a regular basis. For example, if you’re creating an advert, why are you creating it? Because it’s needed. Why is it needed? Because it’s Christmas and you have got items to sell. What makes your product/service interesting? It makes life easier. How or why does it make life easier? Because …. As you proceed, you’ll find yourself with more information that you can use in your campaigns.
They are confident and take risks- Sometimes people lack the confidence to ask questions i.e. they worry that the question doesn’t make sense or they don’t want others to know they didn’t understand something. Creative people have confidence in their abilities, they like to experiment and take risks in order to think and work differently. I am one of those people who think the reward is worth the risk. Creative people tend to be curious and want to know every detail so as to think creatively and differently. As knowledge increases so does creativity. Why? Knowledge gives us insight into how things work and what can be done. When we understand something, it becomes much easier for our creative juices to flow.
They want space– I value my solitude. According to American existential psychologist Rollo May, “In order to be open to creativity, one must have the capacity for constructive use of solitude. One must overcome the fear of being alone.” We are so used to being on the move and spending time with friends that sometimes we undervalue solitude. Spending time with oneself is a good thing. Sometimes solitude allows for producing your best work. Creative people find room for themselves to think differently as this clears the mind and allows clear focus.
