What’s on-trend in social media for 2022?
Social media has indeed been a transformative force in the world of Marketing and Public Relations and as such since the commencement of the pandemic, I have been upskilling in the areas of social media strategy, social media marketing as well as digital PR, through gaining official qualifications. As such, I feel compelled to share with you a few trends that you should pay attention to as we progress into 2022. It’s important to not only spend time assessing past analytics and trends but also gain some foresight into where social media is headed.
Short form video – According to businessofapps.com, TikTok and Instagram are two of the most downloadable apps in the app store. TikTok and Instagram Reels will continue to reign this year but video memes will emerge. If you’re not familiar with video memes, be sure to Google it!
Engagement opportunities- Numerous engagement stickers on stories have emerged on Instagram (IG) and much to the delight of many of you, IG now allows you to reply to Reels. Furthermore, Instagram has now enabled brands to create event reminders that followers can turn on notifications for. This move obviously has positive implications for your brand if you plan to have an event. Why should you be concerned about engagement features like these? The more someone engages with your content, the more it signals to the IG algorithm that your content is resonating with them. Therefore, your content will be shown to persons in higher priority in the scroll and even push it to more people.
Showing your brand’s human side – Being social on social media is set to continue. Consumers are doing more than paying attention to your products and services on social media. They are also looking at how aligned your brand is to social issues and its overall mission so why not showcase your brand’s perspective on social media!
