“17” dies in hail of bullets in Trigger Ridge
Homicide #18
The life of a 28-year-old man of Trigger Ridge, Redemption Sharpes, was cut
short in a hail of bullets on Monday night bringing the number of homicides
for the year to 18.
Junior Bibby was killed around 10.30 p.m. on Monday June, 10, 2024. He,
reportedly, was on his way home when he was attacked by gunmen. Residents
in the area recall hearing over 20 gun shots, and when things settled, Bibby,
who also was known to many as Matthew and ‘17’, was found dead.
His death comes less than two weeks after the end of a national firearms
amnesty initiated by the police to get illegal firearms and ammunition out of
the hands of people who are not licensed to carry arms, and strengthen the
safety and security of citizens. The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police
Force (RSVGPF) said that in the March 1- May 31, 2024 amnesty period, 18
illegal firearms and 327 bullets were surrendered.
This latest killing comes 47 days after Romano ‘No Mercy’ Pompey was killed
in an encounter at Trigger Ridge with the police, around three hours after he
allegedly shot and killed Zenroy ‘Chucky’ Lee, a national footballer who
resided at Murray’s Village.
The police say they have launched an investigation into the death of Bibby and
are asking anyone with pertinent information to contact them.
