Man shot and killed in Gibson Corner

Late this evening, Saturday February 3, 2024, it was confirmed by police that a body was discovered in the West Kingstown community of Gibson Corner with what appears to be gunshot wounds.

Although SEARCHLIGHT was able to confirm that the victim has been identified, police are working to contact any known relatives before releasing the name. The body was found on a road leading towards the mountain.

One resident of the area who spoke to SEARCHLIGHT questioned if the country’s latest homicide victim was connected to a recent shooting in the same community last month.

At about 11:30 am on Monday January 22, 2024, in Gibson Corner, the victim and the assailant were engaged in an argument when the assailant shot him in the left leg and on the left side of his chest. The victim is warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in a stable condition.

Saturday night’s killing is the second fatal shooting for 2024, and the third homicide for the year. An autopsy is scheduled to be done to determine the cause of death.

To date there have been a few non-fatal shooting incidents in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, after experiencing it’s most violent year of 2023, during which a record-breaking 55 homicides were recorded.

That 2023 figure broke the previously set record of 42 recorded in 2022.
