Commissioner of Police Colin John to demit office
St Vincent and the Grenadines will soon have a new Commissioner of Police (CoP), with the incumbent having given notice of his intention to proceed on early retirement.
CoP Colin O John will demit office in the next few weeks, SEARCHLIGHT has confirmed with multiple sources.
John, 55, who has been CoP since December 31, 2018 is a 35-year veteran of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.
Neither CoP John nor Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr Ralph Gonsalves would comment on this development when SEARCHLIGHT spoke with them separately on Thursday, August 24.
John is the holder of a LLB honours degree and has been called to the Bar of England & Wales and the OECS Bar.
This is the second time John is retiring from the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF). In 2010, while a Station Sergeant, he retired after completing his Bar exams. He was then appointed Crown Counsel 1 in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
In 2012, he was appointed Assistant DPP, then on August 8, 2016, he was reassigned to the RSVGPF as the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
On January 2, 2018, John was promoted to Acting Commissioner of Police and was confirmed in the rank of Commissioner of Police on December 31, 2018.
