Two new COVID-19 cases recorded — one local and one from the UK

Two new COVID-19 cases, one local and another imported, have been confirmed today in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The new local case is related to the recent cluster of local spread, bringing the total to six. A release from NEMO dated today, December 31 said intensive contact tracing identified in excess of 125 contacts of these positive cases.

“…Aggressive testing and quarantining by the COVID-19 Taskforce team are ongoing, aimed at the containment of the local spread of COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” it said.

The second new case is an adult who arrived from the UK on December 27, tested negative on arrival but positive on December 29.

All positive cases are isolated until cleared by two negative tests.

“The Health Services Subcommittee, in support of the public health interventions of the COVID-19 Taskforce team, has recommended that all mass gatherings be postponed,” the release said.

It also noted that “where postponement of these gatherings is not possible, all of the measure of the protocol, including documentation of patrons, physical distancing, mask use and hygiene measures must be enforced”.

The Health Services Subcommittee appreciates the anticipated compliance of the public with the requirement to use facial coverings when in all government facilities.

This measure will serve to reduce the likelihood of further spread of the COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

There are currently 23 active cases.

To date, SVG has now recorded a total of 121 cases of COVID-19, 98 of which have recovered.
