Bequia lad trumps at National Table Tennis championships serve off

Glenrick Hazell of Bequia was able to secure the first title that was decided when the 2019 National Table Tennis Championships served off last Friday at the Church of Latter Day Saints Recreation Centre at Kingstown Park.

Hazell, in his crowing moment, beat Malikia Bascombe 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, to win the infantile division.

Last Friday’s opening also saw matches played in the teams’ category.

Chalking up wins were AVESCO One and Grims.

AVESCO One beat Com Sports Smashers 3 games to 1.

 Mirac Creese defeated Shaquan Greaves 11-5 , 11-7, 11-8, while Robert Ballantyne beat Michel Creese 5-11, 11-9 11-3, and Ballantyne also got the better of Mirac Creese 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.

In the doubles, Ballantyne and Greaves beat the Creese brothers 4-11, 6-11, 11-8 ,7-11.

Also, Grims defeated Papa Loopers 3 games to 2. Antwan Tannis saw off Che Connell 11-5, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, while Akeil DeRoche overcame Joshua Joseph 11-5, 7-11, 11-3, 11-7.       
   
In the doubles. Joseph and Tannis beat DeRoche and Connell 7-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8.

 Akeil DeRoche outlasted Antwan Tannis 11-4, 11- 5, 11-3, and Che Connell beat Joshua Joseph 9-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 11-4.       
The championships conclude this Saturday.
