Juliana Nero joins women’s cricket century parade
Juliana Nero, last Saturday became the latest national female cricketer to reach triple figures in the 2019 St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc.’s women’s 40-over cricket competition.
Nero, a former West Indies player, belted 161 not out for Super Strikers against Jules Anthony North Leeward Girls at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.
Her innings contained 15 fours and 9 sixes. Nero was ably supported by Hazel Ann Foster, who lashed 10 fours in her 83.
Super Strikers’ innings was also propped up by 45 extras, as they posted 308 for 1 from 28 overs.
North Leeward Girls in response were dismissed for 91. Shannel Mc Kie, with 26, was the leading batsman.
Bowling for Super Strikers, Jessica Lavia picked up 4 for 36.
And, in a top of the table clash at the Stubbs Playing Field, United Survivors remained the lone unbeaten team in the bunch, after registering a commanding nine-wicket win over arch rivals and joint defending champions JG Tigress.
Stacy Adams stroked 35 in Tigress’ below par innings of 115 all out from 30.1 overs.
Tigress’ batting was unraveled by the bowling of Allison Antoine, who snared 4 for 35. Sherma Wright took 2 for 1 and Cordel Jack, 2 for 19.
United Survivors then reach 116 for 1 from 27 overs. Samantha Lynch, who scored 47 not out and 40 extras were the main contributors in United Survivors’ reply.
