Awesome FC land SEDI football title

It was all Awesome FC, as they lifted the 2017 South East Development Inc football league title, last Sunday at the Stubbs Playing Field.

Awesome edged out Volcanoes FC 3-2, in a bruising encounter on a soft and loose outfield, occasioned by rain and its poor upkeep.

A brace from Omar Cupid and a strike from Lezlo Mc Kenzie accounted for Awesome FC’s tally.

Kishorn Durham and Hosni Chandler had netted for Volcanoes before the latter had to be taken to hospital with an injury.

Awesome FC, a lookalike of the Calliaqua inter-league squad, had two previous attempts at lifting the title, but had to settle for the runner-up spot. But on the day of decision last Sunday, Awesome FC made up, thanks to the creative output of Zeddie Millington, who was adjudged the Player of the Final.

Before getting to the final, Awesome had a 3-0 win over United, while Volcanoes blanked Diamond 2-0, as the four teams chased for places in the final.

Diamond went on to trounce United 8-0, to take the third place.

Awesome pocketed $1,500, the first place trophy, as well as the Franklyn Browne Evaluation Services challenge shield, to be kept for one year.

Second placed Volcanoes secured $1,000 and the second place trophy, while Diamond got $800 and the third place trophy.

 New rules for 2018 Competition

Come 2018, teams from outside of the South East area will not be allowed to compete in the league.

President of SEDI Inc Yolande London made this announcement at last Sunday’s closing and presentation ceremony, which followed the final.

London said her organization has made the decision to keep it all within the South East district for 2018.

She said that it will be in commemoration of SEDI’s 10h anniversary; therefore, only the 12 villages which encompass South East will take part in all competitions, football included.
