Vincentians to try again for OECS cycling podium finish


The two St Vincent and the Grenadines representatives at this year’s staging of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Cycling, Championships, held in Dominica last Sunday morning, returned creditable performances, despite not making it to the podium.

Zefal Bailey finished ninth from a field of 23 finishers, while Enroy Lewis was three places behind in 12th.

Bailey’s time over the 96 km was 3 hours 12 minutes 00.16 seconds and Lewis’ was 3 hours 18 minutes 36.82 seconds.

Championing the race, which began in the country’s capital Roseau, to the second town in the north and back to Roseau, was Antigua and Barbuda’s Jyme Bridges.

One who has won the title prior, Bridges’ clocking over the distance was 3 hours 29.30 seconds, barely nipping St Lucian Andrew Norbert, who timed 3 hours 29.37 seconds.

Another Antiguan, Marvin Spencer, rode in third in 3 hours 4 minutes 49.99 seconds.

Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and hosts Dominica, were the participating countries in the championships.

Accompanying Bailey and Lewis were Justin Douglas, manager and Orano Andrews, mechanic.

Following their outing in the OECS Championships, Bailey and Lewis moved on to Anguilla to take part in the John T Memorial classic.
