Spann and Connell assured Beacon men’s doubles tennis title
The duo of Onike Spann and Grant Connell aced their way to the top rung of the Beacon Insurance menâs doubles tennis tournament, which concluded Saturday at the Grassroot Tennis Club at the Haddon Hotels courts on Murrayâs Road.{{more}}
Facing off with the number two seeds â Michael Nanton and Trevor Sam â Span and Connell were pushed to the limit.
Spann and Connell were cruising at 5-2, with the title in sight, but Nanton and Sam drew on their reserves and rallied back, to lead 7-6.
A missed volley shot by Sam gave Spann and Connell a lifeline, which they clutched and crossed out the contest 9-7.
It was the second successive doubles title for Spann and Connell, who drove away with the Suzuki doubles title in August.
The Grassroot Tennis Club closes off a packed year of activities this Saturday with the SVG General Services Limited Junior Christmas, which served off yesterday. (RT)
