Grenadian takes NACAC 10k grand finale

Grenadian Sherwin Paul won the open men’s category in 32 minutes, 21.04 seconds as the 2012 NACAC 10k road race finale, hosted by Team Athletics SVG, climaxed here Sunday.{{more}}

Trinidad and Tobago’s Denzil Ramirez finished second in 32:37.02.

The first Vincentian male athlete to cross the finish line was Junior Ashton, who placed third.

The emerging distance athlete’s time was 33:54.02.

Completing the top five finishers were Jose Rubiera of the Dominican Republic, who finished fourth in 35:41.06 and fifth was Josnel Ashton of St Vincent and the Grenadines, in 36:14.06.

In the women’s category, Tonya Nero of Trinidad and Tobago won in 38:31.03.

Taking the second spot was Grenadian Kenisha Pascal in 39:56.06.

Docking in third was Jaisa Sanchez of the Dominican Republic, in 40:17.08.

Top Vincentian female long distance athlete Lisa Daniel had to settle for fourth in 43:54.04.

The other women’s places were taken by Vincentian athletes Linda Mc Dowall, Alicia Cox, and Sheva Butcher — in that order.

A total of 24 athletes —17 men and 7 women —participated in Sunday’s road race, which started at Prospect and finished near the RBTT Bank and CIBC First Caribbean International Bank on Halifax Street. (RT)
