Chatoyers’ trio lead Vincentian charge in 10k finale

The Chatoyers’ trio of Pamenos Ballantyne, Junior Ashton and Josnel Ashton will lead the Vincentian charge in this Sunday’s North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) 10K road race series grand finale.{{more}}

The trio controlled the three top places in three LOG Enterprises road races, staged by the road racing and cross country commission of Team Athletics SVG, in October and November.

Several female runners, including Lisa Daniel, will fly the Vincentian flag in the grand race.

Ballantyne told SEARCHLIGHT on November 29 that he has opted to participate in Sunday’s race, instead of travelling to Barbados to be part of that island’s Run Barbados Series.

Ballantyne, a former winner of the Barbados Marathon and the 10k series, said the authorities in Barbados had specially invited him, but he was committed to being part of a bigger affair on home soil.

Sunday’s race will also feature previous winners of the NACAC 10K road races conducted this season.

Among the overseas competitors due for Sunday’s event are Denzil Ramirez and Tonya Nero of Trinidad and Tobago, Jaisa Sanchez and Jose Rubiera of the Dominican Republic and Omarco Robinson of Jamaica. Also expected in are competitors from Grenada.

Sunday’s race, which begins at Prospect at 3 p.m., ends at Halifax Street and South River Road, in the vicinity of the RBTT and FCIB banks.

The winner of each of the categories, male and female, will pocket US$500. The second place gets $400, with the third place finishers getting $375. The fourth and fifth place winners receive $275 and $250, respectively.

Sunday’s race is open to athletes 18 years and over. (RT)
