Guinness Street Football Challenge returns

Guinness, the world’s number one stout, proudly launches the return of the Guinness Street Football Challenge to SVG. This year, the competition promises to be much bigger as Guinness searches for the greatest community team from across the Caribbean.{{more}}

The winning team from each zone will win $500 and a case of Guinness. The overall winning team will receive $2000, 5 cases Guinness and represent St.Vincent in a regional, Caribbean finals taking place in Guyana on June 23rd, 2012. To further inspire greatness in the community, the team that wins will have a multipurpose, street football pitch built for their community courtesy of Guinness.

The Guinness Street Football Challenge, another version of small goal football, will accommodate teams of five participants. Registration forms can be collected and filled out at the various sport bars across the island as well as at the St.Vincent Brewery Ltd in Campden Park. Registration fee will be $5 per player. Registration would be open from today, April 20th and persons will soon be informed of the match locations.

Kenwyne Jones, striker with English Premier League Club, Stoke City F.C. and captain of Trinidad & Tobago’s football team, is to continue his role as Guinness Street Football Challenge Ambassador. Kenwyne will also be appearing at the pan-Caribbean Finals in Guyana.

Eagerly anticipating the return of 2012 Street Football Challenge, an elated Jones commented on how great he is feeling to once again be the Guinness Street Football Ambassador. “There are many people who have inspired me throughout my career, especially in the early days as I was growing up in Point Fortin. Hopefully the Guinness Street Football Challenge will inspire some greatness in local communities around the Caribbean. Whether you are actually playing or supporting your local team, make sure you get involved” further commented Jones.
