Previously set to open on February 4, the competition was postponed to last Saturday, to allow teams to get more time to prepare themselves.

However, last Saturday, when members of some of the teams and media personnel turned up to the venue, they were met with work still being done on the pitch and on the outfield.

President of ASCO Dennisford Foster told SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday that the heavy rains during the previous week prevented the start of the competition.

“We dug up the pitch on Monday, but the rains came on Tuesday; we did some work on Wednesday, but the sky opened up yesterday, (Friday) and affected us”, Foster said.

“It is nothing we could have done, it was an act of nature”, Foster stated.

The long-standing president said that this Saturday’s opening, barring any other unforeseen circumstances, will begin with a competitive match, a deviation from the Ball-O-Rama, which was to kick off the competition.

However, the Opening Ceremony, set to begin at 1:00 pm, will be maintained and will feature the march past of teams, addresses from government officials, as well as President of ASCO Foster.

Contesting the nineteenth edition are fifteen male teams and five female outfits.

RSVG Police will defend the Male Division, while nine-time champions, United Survivors, will defend the Female Division. (RT)
