Rivals take the Victors Title

MVC Rivals went all the way in the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams 20/20 Cricket Competition and stashed away $3,000 in their kitty.{{more}}

Rivals completed their one hundred per cent record of wins in this year’s edition, when they beat defending champions Victors One last Sunday at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field. Victors One batted first and scored 109 for 9, from the maximum 20 overs. Donwell Hector was their top batsman with 22. Denis Byam contributed 21.

Kesrick Williams took 2 for 14 and Mc Neil Morgan 2 for 24. In response, Rivals laboured to victory winning off the penultimate ball, as they got to 113 for 5. Hyron Shallow led the way with a cultured 40. Morgan contributed 23, as Hector bagged 3 for 20.

En route to the finals, Rivals defeated OLA Radcliffe by eight wickets on Saturday, also at the same venue. Radcliffe scored 99 for 6 from their 20 overs. Wayne Harper hit 30, as Deighton Butler snared 2 for 20. Rivals made 101 for 2, with four balls to spare. Harley Skerritt struck 36 and Shallow 31 not out.

In the other semi final, also played on Saturday, Victors One got a scare from Bequia Combined but prevailed. Hector hit 70 not out, Byam 37, as Victors One totalled 169 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs. Bequia made a spirited reply, stopping 24 runs short, scoring 145 off their 20 overs.

Salvan Browne topscored with 40, Razine Browne, 28, Cosmos Hackshaw, 25, and Shem Browne, 23. Keiron Cottoy took 2 for 16, Dodridge Small, 2 for 21, Alston Bobb, 2 for 24, and Hector, 2 for 33, bowling for Victors One, and a place in the Final. But they were second best and had to settle for the $2000 runner up purse.
