Spencer copped the Boys Under-20 title, when he defeated Damien Dublin 19-17, 1-5, 11-5, in the final last Friday afternoon at the Old Government Printery.

Spencer beat the much touted Kamal Hunte in their semi final match up. The south paw Hunte was taken out 0-3 by the ever improving Spencer, while Dublin stopped Kavir Gaymes 3-2 to set up his final meeting with Spencer. Hunte, though, ended in third position.

But Spencer and Hunte teamed up to beat Gaymes and Dickson in doubles play.

They triumphed 9-11, 11-4, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, as the younger duo did not make their task easy. Dublin and Dominic Evans captured the third spot in the doubles category.

Dickson finished off the afternoon, with a three set win over Gaymes. Dickson left Gaymes at 11-7, 11-8, and 11-8 to take the Under-16 Singles.

En route to the final, Dickson beat Johnathan Daniel 3-0, and Gaymes ousted Jovan Carrington by the same margin. Daniel had the consolation of taking the third spot.

Sean Stanley, representing the Sports Department, urged the young players to keep practising their craft, as it easy to lose it. He said that the Department initiated the competition, to give the players some meaningful activity in their mid term school break.

The two day competition staged last week Thursday and Friday brought together 40 players. (RT)
