US beats Jamaica in one-day cricket

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh, Jr., discarded for West Indies’ campaign in the ICC Champions’ Trophy in England, continued to remind the selectors of his ability with a quick-fire 61, as Jamaica lost by eight runs to the United States in the second match of their limited-overs cricket series on Tuesday.  {{more}}
Chasing a revised target of 178 in 33 overs after the United States scored 199 for seven in 50 overs, Baugh set about the United States’ bowling with relish, striking six fours and one six in a knock that required a mere 45 balls.
Baugh shared a 47-run, fifth-wicket partnership with Tamar Lambert, who scored 32, and then added 57 for the sixth wicket with Olanza Harris, who scored 16, thus reviving the Jamaica innings that had slipped to 29 for four.
Seamer Donovan Blake destroyed the innings to finish with four for 30 from seven overs and leg-spin bowler Nasir Javed took three for 33.
Earlier, former Young Jamaica batsman Mark Johnson smashed five fours and three sixes in a 67-ball 54 and the Barbados-born Charles Reid gathered 36 from 32 balls to lead the United States’ scoring.
