Six-a-side Christmas Day soccer a success

15.Jan.10

Editor: On behalf of myself and all the players that took part in the X-Mas Day six-a-side tournament at the Grammar School Playing Field, we wish to thank the National Lotteries Authority and Mr Hans King for their joint sponsorship as this went a long way in ensuring a really pleasurable day.{{more}} We also extend thanks to Selwyn Prescod of D LIME for donating the winner’s plaque which was done locally by Lennox ‘Bow’ Clasp and to Osborne Browne of the NSC for the use of the Grammar School Playing Field.

Congratulations to Digicel Jebelle for winning the LIME Plaque, after being in runners up role last year. This was the first team in memory to actually lose a game in the earlier round and still win the tournament. A great victory, as they got their revenge on High Grade United when it mattered…in the Finals. This year we had ten teams instead of the usual eight, with ten minute games, and these went smoothly and incident-free for over four hours. This by itself was a remarkable accomplishment when considering the quick tempered nature of our society today. We also had our first semi final games after nearly 30 years of competition where Avenues, the defending champs, and Stingers lost out.

KUDOS to all the players and supporters for sharing in another memorable occasion, and we look forward to 2010 and another special day.
