The Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will host the Association’s inaugural reading competition today, Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Girl Guides Headquarters in Level Gardens from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

The competition is being held to mark International Day of Peace which is recognised all across the globe and will also be a part of the Association’s activities to recognise International Literacy Day and Orange Day in the month of September. The competition will be held under the theme “Stop the Violence”.

Six Girl Guides in Forms 1 and 2 across the Windward, Leeward and Kingstown/Grenadines Divisions will read messages promoting peace, non-violence and anti-crime positions. All participating Girl Guides will receive a Peace Medal of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the top three participants will receive special awards.

“The Girl Guides Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines remains committed to strengthening the ideals of peace, within the communities of St Vincent and the Grenadines and hopes to make this event a biennial one. The Girl Guides Association will also continue to host public speaking competitions every other year on pertinent topics that encourage the development of more peaceful societies,” a release from the Association said.
