At a brief handover ceremony on Monday, October 26, at the Ministry of Education, Kathleen Huggins, a friend of former educator Olson Thomas, handed over six mathematics kits on his behalf.

Thomas, who resides in New York, USA, is a former pupil and teacher of the Georgetown Government School, one of the institutions which will receive three of the six kits.

Two of the kits will go to the Langley Park Government and the other to the Dickson Government School.

On presenting the kits, Huggins said that she hoped that the kits would help to improve the mathematics skills of the students who use them.

She related that her long time friend Thomas was spared from the banana plantations while a primary school student in Georgetown, and he went on to gain master’s degrees in Education and Mathematics.

Headteacher of the Georgetown Government School Neil Henry, speaking on behalf of the other headteachers, said that the donations, though small, would go a long way towards the education of the students.

He thanked Thomas and the Ministry of Education for making his school a recipient of the kits.(JJ)
