North Leeward Carnival launched


Dubbed the “Hottest Rural Carnival”, the North Leeward Sports and Cultural Association (NLSCA) launched its 2008 Carnival activities at the Sharpes Park in Chateaubelair last Sunday evening. The event was also significant in that the festivity was opened with sweet pan music from the newly formed Pan Power Steel Orchestra in its debut performance.{{more}}

Miss North Leeward 2007 Dieta Tucker declared the event open, and implored the audience to have a violence free carnival and to have fun and make this year’s carnival celebrations better than ever. Tucker will lead a parade of the 2008 Miss North Leeward contestants from Spring Village to Fitzhughes then back to the Sharpes Park on Sunday, 15 June.

Six young beauties representing various communities of North Leeward will vie for the prestigious Miss North Leeward title on 20 June at the Petit Bordel hard court. Corcel Grant will represent Spring Village, Nicolette Alexander, Tromouca, Alisha Jack, Rose Bank, Shemika Matthews, Petit Bordel, Veronique Williams, Chateaubelair and Shanese Victory, will represent Fitz Hughes.

The road jam will take place on June 21, and the festivities will culminate at the Sharpes Park. Cable and Wireless bMobile is the main sponsor of the events. (AC)
