Points to remember

This week we are going to do things a little differently; I had the distinct privilege and pleasure to be around a group of wonderful and phenomenal young women at a Teen Conference in St Vincent, almost two weeks ago. After my encounter with these very bright, capable and open young ladies, I walked away feeling very hopeful for our future going forward.{{more}}

So, let me just share and reflect with you a few points that I would love you to hold on to, even when you are being challenged and tried by the many negative forces that come at you daily:

Never compromise your high standards and what you know in your heart to be right. Believe me when I tell you it will never lead you astray. Always know that your parents (especially your mothers) aren’t the ENEMY. They may seem like they are at the moment, but this window is so small that if you have faith, you will see that MOST of the time their words are the truth. There will not be many people out there who will be there for you in your life like that – treasure your parents.

Remember you can’t change someone else, so don’t try to. If you are in a relationship and it is not working, please walk away. It is not worth it to try to “change” someone because you think you can. They will have to want to do this for themselves. You have too much in this life to work towards without becoming someone’s life coach.

Education, education, education! This is your road map to success. This is something that no one can ever take away from you. Continue to be thirsty for knowledge and bettering yourself. Remember this world will change shortly because of your contribution, so let us make it a positive one.

Always remember to “Pay it forward.” You may think you don’t have anything to give or share, but you are sadly mistaken. You can volunteer to feed the poor, check in on the elderly, collect food for neighbours in need or be a watchful or protective eye to a little one. This life is not about just getting, but giving as well, so be kind to those you encounter.

Finally, never let anyone take your shine away. We ALL make mistakes in this life – this is a way of life. But it’s how you come back from then that shows the world what you are truly made of. I know I’ve made and continue to make MANY mistakes in my life, but I’ve had the privilege to be given multiple opportunities to learn and grow from them and I know you can too.

So, my phenomenal young women (and men too) continue to prove the naysayers wrong and show them that you are made of the stuff that produces champions. I am in your corner.

Much love,

Rosie
