When he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on April 23, magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias ordered Rohan Alexander to pay the fine for assault immediately or spend one month in jail.

The court heard that on April 9, at Largo Heights, at about 6:05 p.m., while on her way home, Sue-Ann Adams stopped and spoke with a friend.

While she was speaking with the friend, Alexander came and asked to speak with her. Adams refused and walked off. Alexander followed and began hitting her about her body, causing her to fall to the ground.

Adams and Alexander are parents of an 18-month-old child. The court heard that their relationship ended in November 2013 and since then, Alexander has been pleading with Adams to rekindle their relationship.

In court, Alexander stated that he was not a troublemaker, but admitted that he and Adams frequently argue with each other.

He said in January, this year, Adams told him that she needed a place to stay and came to live at his house. However, the arguments continued and she again left.

“I have never been in a situation like this before. I don’t make trouble,” Alexander told the magistrate.

Alexander stated that after the incident, he applied to the Marion House to seek counselling and recently acquired a job at a bakery in Redemption Sharpes.

Alexander was also made to pay compensation of $600 to Adams by May 8 or serve a further month in jail.(KW)
