Glenmore Grant to answer charge of manslaughter

Mayreau resident Glenmore Grant, 27, has been granted bail in the sum of $20,000 after appearing at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of manslaughter.{{more}}

Grant is charged with killing his uncle, Lenmore Grant, 24, on April 27 at Mayreau at about 7:30 p.m.

It is alleged that the deceased sustained a stab wound to the left side of his neck following a dispute over a cellular phone.

The prosecution, led by prosecutor John Ballah, objected to Grant’s bail on the grounds that investigations are still being carried out into the matter.

However, under instructions by senior prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, Adolphus Delpeche, Ballah withdrew the objection.

Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias ordered that Grant surrender his travel documents and report to Police Constable Isaacs in Mayreau, on Mondays.

The case was adjourned to July 28, 2014 for preliminary inquiry and transferred to the Serious Offences Court.

Grant is being represented by counsel Grant Connell. (KW)
